Custom Written Music from the Composer Directory

Peter Jay, Composer and Song Writer

I am currently working as Head of Music in an inner city comprehensive school in Norwich.

In the 80’s and 90’s I played in a variety of bands, recording and performing around the UK (signed to Epic Records; touring with Level 42; Elvis Costello; Teardrop Explodes; in the studio with Steve Brown – Wham, The Cult; Owen Morris – Oasis; Steve Osborne – Happy Mondays, KT Tunstall)  this kind of came to a halt when family responsibilities came along.

After a short spell away from serious music making I achieved a Bmus degree and teaching certificate and became a music teacher, which I love doing.

In my spare time I compose. I am putting together a collection of library music for a new company at the moment and have my music represented in America by Worldsound Productions Inc who have licensed my music to Muzak and Music Supervisor Inc.

I tend to compose in the styles of: ambient/atmospheric; ethnic; contemporary classical piano/percussive (minimalist – Steve Reich, John Cage etc); French (Amelie); chillout grooves (Rhodes piano/ Groove Armada); Dark Atmospheric soundtrack;  quirky Tom Waits-ish.

I use mostly PC software Reason and Cubase and sometimes record with live instruments.

Details Listen
Central Station – A laid back track with a contemporary R’n’B beat. Chilled keyboards and a nice groove gives this piece a cool modern sound.
Lounge Junk -   A laid back groove with an edgy feel, the rhythm is made up of ‘junk’ percussion with an easy vibes melody over the top – nice!
Sunset Strip –  Ambient darker sounds over a hip hop beat with live trumpet to give a laid back ‘Groove Armada’ sound.
French Waltz – Does what it says on the tin! A waltz with a French feel – accordions and jangly pianos etc. Think of Amelie and Paris!
Smooth Rhodes 1 – First in a series of short laid back grooves using the groovy Fender Rhodes piano and cool, modern beats. Keywords:  cool, lifestyle, contemporary.
Ambient Airport – A slowly building ambient pieces that gradually increases layers of sound until a robotic electronic beat creeps in underneath! Contemporary and different.
Old Piano (edit) – part of a series of ambient piano pieces slowly building in texture with ambient and ethnic sounds.

Rolling Piano – more ambient piano which slowly builds creating a relaxed, almost oriental feel. A subtle electronic beat enters towards the end.
