Pedestrian Tide
The Goal
I would like to pursue my music writing in the sphere of film & TV music. It is an area that I have always been passionate about—I regularly buy & listen to film soundtracks—as I feel an original & well scored soundtrack can massively enhance the power & message of the images. I feel that the pieces I am currently writing are well suited to this area.
To this end I have had some success. One of my pieces has been used in a short film for a charitable organisation & I am in discussion regarding two more pieces that may be used in similar projects by the same film maker. Further to this, some of my pieces are currently available on this internet site.
I would be delighted to attempt to write specifically for a film or TV based on the input from a film maker, director or production team. I wouldn’t claim that I could write in any style, however with my broad taste & interest in music I feel that I could successfully create authentic & original pieces based on a list of specifications.
The Influences
I have a broad range of influences in various genres. Some of them that come back to me again & again are; Craig Armstrong, Ravel, Ennio Morricone, Zero 7, Michael Nyman, David Bowie, J.S. Bach, David Sylvian, & Eric Satie.
The music I’m recording for the moment is mine & done with the benefit of a home recording studio. The pieces are largely instrumental & were written to be this way. All were written for me, by me & primarily for my pleasure.
So why attempt to do more with them? Well it’s mostly about just putting the music out there, to hear the reaction, to push myself on to improve my writing & if some pay-back & recognition comes my way, then all the better.
The Music Maker
My name is Stuart Lees. I am 37 years old, married with a daughter. I live near Glasgow. I have been playing, writing & recording music since I was 15 & had a lot of fun doing it. I have a National Certificate in Production & Sound Engineering along with a number of other unrelated academic qualifications.
I would like my material to reach a wider audience with the possibility of realising the creative & financial benefits that this offers.
